Winner Two Boots
Next year, this venerable Cajun pizzeria will turn 20, but thankfully, it hasn’t matured one bit. What other family restaurant offers pizzas named after pop- culture figures, like the Dude in The Big Lebowski? Or a terrifying concoction like Planter’s Punk—a drink consisting of every fruit juice and soda on the menu?
None, and that’s to the credit of husband-and-wife owners Phil Hartman and Doris Kornish, who started up the first location in the East Village in 1987 (there are now nine, with two more sites currently under consideration). “At the time, no one there had kids,” Hartman says. “When we said Two Boots would be child-friendly, people scratched their heads, saying, ‘What children?’” To this day, Hartman says that they’re vigilant about catering to little ones: “You can’t even work here if you’re not into kids.”

Runner-up Bubby’s
It’s no surprise that Bubby’s, our winner for Best Kids’ Brunch, came close to taking this category, too. Parents can’t overlook the generous servings of comfort food and delectable pies that they can get in this nobody-bats-an-eye-if-your-kid-has-a-tantrum café, but they reserve top praise for the breakfast fixins.

And don’t forget…Blue Smoke
Danny Meyer’s foray into BBQ may have gotten mixed reviews from jaded old pitmasters, but kids and parents aren’t complaining. Warm barbecued potato chips, classic St. Louis spareribs, and purple-cow floats should satisfy even a picky preschooler. Plus, the smokers are pretty nifty to look at, too.
