Winner Central Park
With 21 playgrounds and nearly two dozen organized sports to entice kids off their keisters, this massive green space was unsurprisingly voted the city’s best fat foe. Stay active with a field-day kit that you can borrow, with a photo ID, from the North Meadow Recreation Center (midpark at 97th St). The canvas sack comes stuffed with a basketball, a horseshoe set, Nerf ball, football, Frisbee, soccer ball, jump rope, handballs, Wiffle balls, bats and hula-hoops. And the next time your kid looks up from his video game and tells you that Central Park is boring, not only will you be ready with a comeback, but you’ll also have the satisfaction of knowing that keeping your kid’s heart rate jumping is a piece of cake—minus the cake.

Runner-up Chelsea Piers
If you haven’t ventured across the great West Side Highway divide to this indoor sports haven, you’re missing out—it boasts a gymnastic center, a pool, an ice- skating rink and a bowling alley. Like Google, Chelsea Piers established itself as a basic necessity almost as soon as it appeared on the scene. It’s hard to remember NYC without it.

And don’t forget...Your house
