Sure, the schooling is free—except for the money you shell out in taxes—but the Board of Ed doesn’t foot every cost. While most contributions are optional (you can give less—or none), expect to pay for the following.

(3) Supplies such as paper, sanitizers, napkins, cups and Ziploc bags.

PRIVATE KINDERGARTEN
Think that second mortgage will only need to cover tuition? Prepare yourself for these additional costs.

You are a cheapskate.
I attended a private school, and many people contributed a very nominal sum to the annual fund. It is by no means an obligation, either.
You've left out an important point. If your child is enrolled at an independent school, then the tuition you pay does not cover the cost of her education. You are obligated to include in your family's annual budget a contribution to the schools' annual fund, and it should be your no. one charitable giving priority.
