Back in the ’70s and ’80s, schoolchildren were thrilled to unwrap Barbie dolls, Matchbox cars, board games…and maybe the rare video game for their Atari system. Life was so simple then. Today’s city kids are just as teched-out as their parents, filling their wish lists with iPods, digital cameras and BlackBerries (okay, we’re kidding about that last one—for this year, anyway). To make your little cyborgs happy, we’ve found some of the coolest new electronic gifts out there. And to reassure Luddite-leaning parents, we’ve included some low-tech options as well. Just remember: Next time you remind your six-year-old that he doesn’t always need to be plugged in, make sure you’re following your own advice.
