Dads don’t do playdates

Illustrator and at-home Brooklyn dad Steve Ellis, who recently returned to New York after three years in Syracuse, says that being the primary caregiver is helping him rediscover the city. “If I were a Type A person, I’d go crazy,” he says of caring for his five-year-old son, Jacob, “but it’s been amazing.” Among the boy’s favorite pastimes are spinning around the center pole on subway cars and watching musicians perform in the stations. “You take all of this for granted when you live here, but it’s all new to him.”
