You look totally fabulous. Will you share some of your beauty secrets?
I spent my twenties worrying about dieting and staying away from fattening foods. At this point in my life, it’s more about health and well-being than looks, food and weight. I don’t even get on a scale. I concentrate on going to meditation and yoga class. And even though I say I want to go three days a week, if I get there once I’m thrilled. As for products, I like La Mer creams, base and foundations, and Aveda and Josie Maran mascara. I believe you have to try and have as much joy in life as possible and find a balance, so while I’m big on stocking up on eco-products, like shopping at H&M for organic lingerie, socks and T-shirts, I’ll also go out and buy a Birkin bag.
On Melrose Place you were the hooker with a heart of gold. On Gossip Girl you play a siren with a secret past. What's it like to be part of this pop-culture phenomenon and work alongside so many hot up-and-coming actors?
On Melrose, [the part] was never really me and I could never quite figure it out. Lily [on Gossip Girl] is one of my favorite characters ever and the writing is just so inspiring. It's been a real joy playing her. I work one to three days a week—the [younger actors] are out doing most of the promoting—so it’s been a role that has allowed me to be a mom with a part-time job on a show that’s a huge hit with an ageless appeal. My mother and her friends watch it, and I’ve even had guys in the street come up to me and tell me they love Gossip Girl. Everyone can relate to coming from the wrong or right side of the tracks, and I love that the older characters actually have story lines. We’re all just trying to figure it out, just like in real life.
Are you planning on delivering your baby in New York City?
Actually, I’m going to be in L.A. with my mom and family and have the baby there. I haven’t been back in months.
What do you think of the Melrose Place remake, and would you reprise your role if asked?
That is something so in the future for me. I’m focused on doing Gossip Girl right now. I’m sure they’re doing a great job, but I’d love it if they’d do a movie and get all of us back together. I’d definitely drag Marcia [Cross] to it!
