It’s a whole lot easier to list what’s not geared toward kids on the Upper West Side: Ouest, Barneys Co-op, Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, Dive Bar. Done.
The venerable Manhattan nabe, sandwiched between Central Park and Riverside Park as perfectly as the creme in an Oreo, is brimming with so many tot-focused shops, eateries, museums and play spaces that grown-ups can feel like too-tall interlopers. But there’s no better place for a weekend family walk than these leafy streets lined with grand Beaux Arts apartment buildings and Italianate brownstones. Just don’t try to cover the area in one sweep; pick a single avenue to stroll down, and take your time.
• Amsterdam Avenue stroll
• Columbus Avenue stroll
• Broadway stroll

Don't forget the Bank Street Bookstore located at 112th St. and Broadway, which is fantastic for children's books, games, and toys, and also includes teaching materials and parenting books.
Don't forget Beard Papa, for the most mouth watering puffs in the world. They have lava cakes, ice-cream filled Mochi too! They are economical and won't break the bank like it's neighbor Grom over priced ice-cream. Van Leeuwen's Organic Ice Cream Truck is a delight and has Sundays & Banana splits. It parks near by on Broadway too.
The upper west side is NYC's parenting mecca. Between the parks, the take out and the stroller-friendly stores there is tons of programing for moms, dads babies and children. New Mother's Support Groups at Prenatal Yoga Center on w 72 is just one great example. Check out momsupport.org
