Eddie’s Sweet Shop
Kids love the fresh hot fudge and whipped cream, as well as the long counter and swiveling stools that make tykes feel transported to an earlier era. We’re iffy about, um, the ice cream. While Eddie’s is beloved for its setting(it seems like a film crew is about to shoot a period movie there at any moment), the actual dessert is just okay. Standout flavor We dug the Mint Chocolate Chip. 105-29 Metropolitan Ave at 72nd Rd, Forest Hills (718-520-8514).Subway: E, F, V, G, R to Forest Hills–71st Ave. Regular cone: $2.50.

Jahn’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor
Kids love the classic menus, whose illustrated covers contain trivia gems like “How to make an egg cream.” We’re iffy about the hour-long trip on the J train to get to Richmond Hill. It’s a long hike for even the most determined dairy queen. Standout flavor Rocky Road gets our vote, but really, you come here for the ambience more than the ice cream. 81-04 37th Ave at 81st St, Jackson Heights (718-651-0700). Subway: 7 to 82nd St–Jackson Heights. Regular cone: $2.
Lemon Ice King of Corona
Kids love the wide selection including Cherry, Peanut Butter and (of course) Lemon, as well as the heaping scoopfuls that get packed into the little paper cup. Just be careful that your child doesn’t end up wearing Italian ice down the front of her tee. Standout flavor The Rainbow: it’s messy and refreshing. 52-02 108th St at Corona Ave, Corona (718-699-5133). Subway: 7 to 103rd St–Corona Plaza. Regular cup: $1.50.
MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream Treatery
Kids love everything about this minichain (which also has locations in Park Slope and on the UWS): the bovine illustrations on the wall, the endless variety of flavors and mix-ins. You will find no other parlor that makes ice cream this sweet, or this neon-colored. We’re iffy about the fact that you will find no other ice cream parlor that makes ice cream this sweet, or this neon-colored. Only a kid could love the Very Yellow Marshmallow or Twizzlers varieties (let’s hope). Standout flavor We’d have to go with the Fresh Banana. 39-33 Bell Blvd at 39th Ave, Bayside (718-229-0229, maggiemoos.com). Check the website for other locations. Travel: LIRR to Bayside station, walk one block north. Regular cone: $4.89.
Max & Mina’s
Kids love the kitsch factor here. The walls are plastered with memorabilia, and scoops like Bubble Gum are testaments to the wonders of food coloring. But what the place is really famous for is its fascinating combos like Gefilte Fish, Horseradish and Lox. Standout flavor The Oreo Cheesecake is great, but safe. We say: Make your bubbe proud by at least sampling the infamous Lox ice cream. 7126 Main St at 71st Rd, Flushing (718-793-8629). Travel: F to Kew Gardens–Union Tpke, then take the Q74 bus to Main St–72nd Ave. Regular cone: $2.85.
