If top hats and canes are the first thing your kids thinks of when he hears the words, “tap dancing,” bring him to the Joyce this weekend where a new show, Revolution, is breaking the mould. Featuring a live band on stage, and dancers who wear black leather and jeans, Revolution combines beat-driven tap with head bopping-worthy Rolling Stones-style rock & roll music. Kids will likely get into the interactive aspects of the show: a video displays images that the dancers react to and member of the band intermingle with the tappers the same way a guitarist would with a lead singer at a live rock concert. Even if your kid isn’t the type to head to the theater on a regular basis, this could be a show he’ll enjoy just as much as his dance-fiend friends. For an interview with the creators of Revolution, see Dance. Ages 7 and up. –Gabrielle Linzer
